Working at the bleeding-edge of AR technology
Magic Leap designed and built an augmented reality (AR) headset. We had a long engagement with them in 2019, when they were still trying to hone in on a position in the market. We helped them explore ideas for gaming, enterprise, social media, and MMORPG strategies, as well as crafting their operating system paradigms and interactions.
Designing for Spatial Computing
Working within an extended engagement, the team explored how users might interact with digital content in three-dimensional space. This work required rethinking familiar desktop and mobile paradigms and translating them into spatial interactions that felt intuitive, learnable, and consistent.
As part of the design team, I focused on the file management experience within the AR operating system. This involved exploring how users could browse, organize, and interact with files in an immersive environment while maintaining clarity and orientation in space.
Tools, Systems, and Collaboration
In addition to end-user AR experiences, the team designed supporting tools for developers and administrators, including device management and developer-facing interfaces. I contributed to these efforts by helping refine interaction patterns and visual structure across tools to ensure consistency with the broader platform.
Through close collaboration with designers, engineers, and researchers, we worked toward a cohesive design language that balanced experimentation with usability—laying groundwork for future product development in an emerging and rapidly evolving medium.
